High latency is a major dampening agent for WoW players. Unless you are really close to the server you might experience high values of latency and this might in effect mar your playing experience. Even some of the players who are staying close to where the servers have been hosted have reported of high latencies. This is because of the routing problems of the ISP in question. In this article we shall we looking into two methods of playing WoW with lower latency. After these two fixes are applied there will be a reduction in the ping values by approximately 150ms to 200ms. And the advantage of this fix is that it takes even less than five minutes to be applied and helps in attaining lower latency.
The first method to be listed in here can be found in many online forums concerning wow. But still some of the players might not know about it, and I am listing the fix in here taking them into consideration. The procedure is to deactivate the nagle algoritm so that the ping value is lowered. This first fix only works fine with Windows XP, if you are using Windows Vista the fix may have negligible effects on the gaming experience. The procedure is as follows
In the run prompt type regedit.msc
Then browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\
On opening the mentioned registry entry, you will find that there are multiple interface being listed, but we are meant to choose the one using which we are currently connected to the internet.
Right click on the right hand side and create a new DWORD which is named TcpAckfrequency. The value which should be assigned to this newly created DWORD is 1.
